Say Goodbye to the Menu Button
26 Jan 2012 | 2:10 pm[This post is by Scott Main, lead tech writer for developer.android.com. — Tim Bray]Before Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), all Android-powered devices included a dedicated Menu button. As a developer, you could use the Menu button to display whatever options were relevant to the user, often using the activity’s built-in options menu. Honeycomb removed the reliance on physical buttons, and introduced the ActionBar class as the standard solution to make actions from the user options immediately visible and quick to invoke. In order to provide the most intuitive and consistent… -
Southern-hemisphere Developer Labs
16 Jan 2012 | 5:37 pmWe’ve just scheduled Android Developer Labs for Melbourne (January 31), Sydney (February 3), and Auckland (February 8). The material is not introductory; it’s aimed at people with existing apps who want to make them better in the era of Ice Cream Sandwich and tablets. You’ll want to show up with the SDK installed, and a couple of devices. If this describes you, drop by the ADL page and sign up. You should hurry, because these are not large-scale events and there are more qualified people than there are seats. -
Introducing the Android Design site
12 Jan 2012 | 3:00 pm[This post is by Christian Robertson, who leads the Android visual design group. He is also the designer of the Roboto font family. —Tim Bray]Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) is our biggest redesign yet — both for users and developers. We’ve enhanced the UI framework with new interactions and styles that will let you create Android apps that are simpler and more beautiful than ever before. To help you in that mission, we’re introducing Android Design: the place to learn about principles, building blocks, and patterns for creating world-class Android user interfaces. -
Levels in Renderscript
10 Jan 2012 | 3:43 pm[This post is by R. Jason Sams, an Android Framework engineer who specializes in graphics, performance tuning, and software architecture. —Tim Bray]For ICS, Renderscript (RS) has been updated with several new features to simplify adding compute acceleration to your application. RS is interesting for compute acceleration when you have large buffers of data on which you need to do significant processing. In this example we will look at applying a levels/saturation operation on a bitmap. In this case, saturation is implemented by multiplying every pixel by a color matrix Levels are… -
Holo Everywhere
3 Jan 2012 | 3:35 pm[This post is by Adam Powell, an Android Framework engineer who cares about style. —Tim Bray]Android 4.0 showcases the Holo theme family, further refined since its debut in Android 3.0. But as most developers know, a new system theme for some Android devices isn’t a new or uncommon event. For developers new system themes mean more design targets for their apps. Using system themes means developers can take advantage of a user’s existing expectations and it can save a lot of production time, but only if an app designer can reliably predict the results. Before Android 4.0 the variance in…

Top Technologies Android Devices Will Get Before the iPhone
28 Jan 2012 | 12:20 amYes, we know. The iPhone is the best selling smartphone in history. Does that make it the best? Does it have the latest and greatest technological innovations inside? Sure, it’s a beautifully crafted device for people that love what technology can do, but perhaps don’t necessarily want it to be to technical. It’s difficult to sum up why it is so popular without being offensive or obtuse, but really, it boils down to marketing, ease of use, and these two things contribute to its overall appeal. That being said, it won’t remain like this forever. Apple has a knack for… -

Phone manufacturers, such as HTC, are in a mad rush to push out their ICS updates with a twist of their respective Android skins, but no one is sure about when exactly the updates will arrive on the HTC handsets. However, thanks to the Virtuous Quattro ROM, owners of the HTC Sensation can freshen up their handsets with pure Android 4.0.3–minus HTC’s custom user interface.According to the ROM’s… -
The New RIM CEO Is Worse than the Ones He Replaced. There, I Said It
27 Jan 2012 | 10:40 pmI’ve had a very bad feeling about the change of CEO’s at RIM since day one. And the more I see the new CEO talk, the more I think RIM can only be worse off after this transition, even though the whole reason why they even did this was to change things for the better. The reason I initially thought it’s a bad change, was mainly because he seems to want the same thing the former leadership wanted, and not to rock the boat too much. But this vision is exactly why everyone from the outside thought RIM should get rid of the 2 CEO’s in the first place. The current… -
The European Commission Approves Sony’s Acquisition of Sony Ericsson
27 Jan 2012 | 10:38 pmSony has finally gained full control over Sony Ericsson after they paid 1.05 billion euro for the shares they didn’t own before. So what does this mean for Sony and where does the smartphone division go from here?Sony realizes that smartphones are becoming more important than ever – perhaps more important than simple phones ever were. The smartphone doesn’t just fulfill the simple function of calling anymore. It’s also your very personal computing that you take everywhere with you. And in many poor countries, a cheap smartphone may be the only type of computer young… -
Should the Galaxy S3 Wait for a Dual Core Cortex A15 CPU and a Mali T604 GPU?
27 Jan 2012 | 7:21 pmRemember that just around the time when the Galaxy S 2 was being launched in US, there were rumors about the Galaxy S3 launching as soon Q1 2012? Some people were upset about it arriving so early, especially Americans who just got theirs, while others were wondering if that would even be possible.Technically, I think it’s possible for a true next-gen device to replace the previous version after only 9 months. But this can only be done by the best and the most efficient manufacturers in the industry right now – like Samsung, HTC and even Motorola (disregarding the Bionic here).

RIM’s New CEO Doesn’t Get It Either
27 Jan 2012 | 10:56 pmMeet Thorstein Heins, the poor sap who just took over RIM. Thorstein is to be RIM’s saving grace, using his “hip” guy attitude he is supposed to turn RIM’s image around. However, if you take into account his recent interview with Crackberry, it’s obvious that like his predecessors he’s pretty much oblivious to the competition. Take this quote for example. Just take a look where the Android OEMs are. I leave this to you. Take a look at their recent announcements and what you will immediately see is there is just no room for differentiation because they are… -

Samsung Rumored To Bring 2GHz Exynos-Powered Galaxy Tab To MWC
27 Jan 2012 | 5:13 pmWe know Samsung is pushing its Exynos line of processors in its devices. That’s a given. However, we all know Sammy has yet to really push the boundaries of its impressive chip. It’s exactly why the brand is hard at work on its Exynos 5250 series of chips. According to Phandroid, Sammy is looking to take the ARM Cortex-A15-based processor and push it into 2GHz territory. You read that correctly folks, it is looking to have its chips at a whopping 2GHz. Moreover, rumor has it that while the chip will be insanely fast, it will suck less power than that the earlier chipsets. As it…

Boosting App Efficiency with the Application Resource Optimizer
26 Jan 2012 | 1:36 amA major challenge in mobile application development is determining what changes need to be made to an app’s architecture to increase efficiency and performance. Unlike traditional web applications, mobile apps are more limited by bandwidth, latency, and battery life. To dig into ways to maximize efficiency, the AT&T Developer Program conducted a series of mobile app tests which looked into network architecture and lower level protocols that are typically hidden from app developers. read more -

Samsung could unveil 2GHz tablet at MWC 2012
27 Jan 2012 | 11:44 pmCould this be what we have been waiting for? We had heard that Samsung may release the 2GHz Exynos 5250 processor sometime during Q2 of this year, but could it also be flaunted at this Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month? It makes perfect sense that it would, because it still follows the chip’s estimated public release date. A 2GHz chip could change everything, especially when it is said to nearly double the performance of the current ones out there. Even more, the graphical rendering could improve by up to 4X!. NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor is a powerhouse, but… -
ASUS Transformer Prime ‘lock-up’ problem to be fixed in February
27 Jan 2012 | 10:48 pmWhen will these Transformer Prime owners get a break? Earlier on we saw severe GPS issues, and now the community is very aware of the random lock-ups so many seem to get after the Android 4.0 update. We haven’t seen any issues with our own models, but that doesn’t disprove the hundreds of posts over in an XDA Developers thread claiming the same obvious problem. ASUS has responded via Gary Key, technical manager, that a fix will be out sometime at the beginning of February. To top it off, Bluetooth and WiFi are having issues functioning simultaneously as well. Hopefully, the fixes… -
LG Optimus 3D to be succeeded by the 3D Max
27 Jan 2012 | 10:09 pmLG’s Optimus 3D had two rear shooters capable of taking 3D video, and now the company plans on offering a successor some time in the near future. As of now, it will be called the LG 3D Max. As you can see, ‘Optimus’ has now been removed. The new device should not only sport a couple better rear shooters, but other upgrades as well. The Optimus 3D only ran a 1GHz TI OMAP, whereas the new 3D Max is predicted to be clocked at 1.2GHz. The display will remain at 4.3 inches, but will certainly support a better resolution than the former 480×800. It will undoubtedly have the… -
Sony’s Ericsson buyout approved by the EU
27 Jan 2012 | 4:24 pmWe’ve previously reported on Sony’s intention to buy out its long-standing partner Ericsson, and absorb the joint company Sony Ericsson into its main business unit. Reuters reports that yesterday the European Commission approved the move, so Sony’s plans to integrate mobile with the rest of its hardware production later in 2012 can continue. Once absorbed, new phones will use only the “Sony” branding, as Sony’s tablets and mobile audio players already do. The deal will mark the end of a partnership that’s been going for ten years – but… -

Apparently, the Samsung SPH-D705 — otherwise known as the Epic 4G 2 — has popped up in the Cellebrite system indicating the device could be launching sometime in the very near future. Apptopia Is A New Brokerage Website To Help Developers Sell Ownership Of Their Apps
27 Jan 2012 | 10:05 pmThere’s no question that mobile apps are a booming business and a new website called Apptopia wants to help developers captilize on this by selling their apps. And we’re not talking about selling an app to users — we’re talking about selling complete ownership of an app, handing over the reigns to a big company or business. “Apps are not just products that you buy for $0.99; they are complete businesses with revenues, customers, technology, and partners. A mobile app is an asset.” Prospective buyers would then, after purchasing an app, get full access to… -

27 Jan 2012 | 1:55 pmJanuary’s almost over and this is the first Android Apps Alert of 2012. Madness, I know, but things kept moving even while we were away dealing with CES and other things. Is Google right to say farewell to the Menu button? [POLL]
27 Jan 2012 | 10:31 amThe menu button has lost its space among the elite conventions of Android UI design. What once was Menu, Back, Home, Search has become Back, Home, App Tray, and Google wants Android developers to get used to it. But should they? Following Scott Main’s blog post on the Android Developer blog yesterday, Android fans are wondering if Google made the right decision to encourage developers to downplay the Menu button and embrace the Action Bar. In a reply to someone’s Google+ post, one disappointed user called it the “worst idea ever,” saying that “Android should have… -
Samsung ”still reviewing” the launch date of Galaxy S III
27 Jan 2012 | 5:51 amThe Samsung Galaxy S II has clearly been of the most popular Android-based smartphones ever, if not the best, so it’s only natural to crave for a Galaxy S III release as soon as possible. However, even though the next generation Korean handheld was originally rumored to make its official debut at the 2012 MWC, it seems that we might wait for a while before catching a glimpse of it after all. In an exclusive conversation with the guys at sammyhub.com, Mrs. Younghee Lee, one of Samsung’s executives stated that the Korean company is ‘’still reviewing several options to launch’’ the… -
Deal of the day: Refurbished 16 GB HP TouchPad for $169.99, 32 GB model for $220

For 169.99 dollars, to be more exact, which is a lot more than the ‘’yard sale’’ price from when HP discontinued the gadget, but is significantly less than what this gadget goes for on most online stores right now. Sure, the TouchPad you will get from Woot for $169.99 is a refurbished 16 GB model, but I personally am thinking to get one, as the…

ZTE V66 headed to Verizon, won’t blow your mind
27 Jan 2012 | 8:10 pmZTE is trying pretty hard to get into the U.S. market, and Verizon might get a piece of the pie. We recently saw the ZTE Optik, headed for Sprint, and now another ZTE tablet has leaked in a blurry shot: the ZTE V66. We're not completely sure, but the V66 could actually be that ZTE tablet we saw hanging around the FCC last year. It's packing a 7-inch 1280 x 800 display, Honeycomb, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Verizon LTE capabilities, a 4,000 mAh battery, and 1GB of RAM. 27 Jan 2012 | 7:38 pmLG's Optimus 3D got quite a bit of attention across the pond when it launched, as one of the first glasses-free 3D Android devices. Word on the street is that LG is planning a successor to the Optimus 3D, but there's a bit of confusion as to what they'll name it. LG will most likely not call the device the Optimus 3D 2, so that leaves only a handful of possible names. Perhaps the most popular is the LG 3D Max, or LG Optimus 3D Max. Our money is on this one, as it seems to be the most direct, and clearly advertises the 3D aspect of the device. Other rumors are floating around that it'll launch… -

Toyota introduces fuel efficiency app for forklift fleet managers
27 Jan 2012 | 2:10 pmAs technology is evolving, smart companies are taking advantage of the new tools available to make themselves more and more efficient. Toyota's Material Handling division has demonstrated a good example of this with their new app system (available on Android tablets and other devices), aimed at allowing forklift fleet managers to estimate fuel use and efficiency on a wide scale in their fleets. Armed with this data, they're then able to calculate fuel needed and make necessary changes to their fleet. While it's not flashy software or even software that would be widely used, it is a good… -

Best Android customisation apps
27 Jan 2012 | 6:45 amYour smartphone, your choices One of the joys of Android is supposed to be customisation and yet few people even bother to change their wallpaper after unboxing their little darlings. One of the problems is that most of us have been scarred by our early live wallpaper experiences - the ones that were just a little too much for our?phones?to handle 24/7 back when the insides of mobiles weren't quite as chipped up as they are these days.Fortunately, things are different nowadays. Android smartphones have harnessed much more bite with plenty of RAM and often a dual-core processor to help kick… -
Android kills the menu button, demands action
27 Jan 2012 | 4:11 amAction bar is the future The menu button on Google's Android is all but dead and is to be replaced permanently by the action bar. That's the message from Scott Main, lead tech writer for developer.android.com, who has posted an article advising Android developers to change their ways. "Honeycomb removed the reliance on physical buttons, and introduced the ActionBar class as the standard solution to make actions from the user options immediately visible and quick to invoke," he wrote. "In order to provide the most intuitive and consistent user experience in your apps, you should migrate your… -

26 Jan 2012 | 5:44 amComing to "other platforms" at least Could Microsoft be about to extend the wings of its online gaming platform, Xbox Live? If a quote from a Microsoft bod given to Forbes is anything to go by, then yes. The business site has quoted a spokesperson from the tech company as saying: "While the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms." Other platforms? We think we can probably rule out…

RIM CEO talks about Android, needs a reality check
27 Jan 2012 | 11:26 amRIM’s success has been declining since the iOS and Android operating systems started skyrocketing. Currently, Blackberry devices hold a dismal position in distribution charts, and Research in Motion is in desperate need of rescue. In an attempt to seek a newer approach, past co-CEO’s have gotten off their thrones, and allowed Thorsten Heins to take over the Canadian company. It seems like RIM will need a bit more than this man’s leadership to get out of that hole, though. One of Thorsten’s first duties as CEO included sitting down for an interview with Kevin Michaluk… -

Will cheap Ice Cream Sandwich tablets sell?
7 Dec 2011 | 6:30 amPictured above is the NOVO7, which is actually the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich tablet. It’s a 7-inch device that features a 1GHz processor with 1080p HD video output — not top of the line, but certainly not assembled from the scrap heap. It’s not much with the rear camera, just 2 megapixels, and the front-facing one is just VGA. While there are some downsides, the upside is considerable. That is, the device is selling for just $100. That’s a pretty magic price point. Can it work for this device? The problem with most cheap Android tablets — the $200… -
Sprint admits to installing Carrier IQ on devices
2 Dec 2011 | 6:30 amIf you haven’t been paying attention, a service called Carrier IQ has cause a bit of a stir lately. The premise is pretty simple. Manufacturers or carriers install the software on your phone. The software then monitors pretty much everything you do, and then reports back to the installing party. Clearly this causes some issues with users; no one wants someone spying on their actions. In the past few days carriers and manufacturers have spoken up regarding their relationships with Carrier IQ. The latest is Sprint, which admitted that it uses Carrier IQ. Does this make you feel less easy… -

The secret to gardening isn’t in the fertilizer, it’s in the apps. If you… -

Why Motorola Xoom is not as popular as iPad2?
26 May 2011 | 6:48 pmThe big debate on Xoom tablet on the internet is based on its price and its ability to compete with Apples I ‘pad. Many people seem to think it is way too overpriced compared to the iPad which is still selling like hot cakes. In fact some went on to say that for the price of the Xoom tablet they would not purchase it unless it was taking over all the functions of their laptops which means incorporating windows. However retailers like amazon.com, Best Buy, Costco, Radio Shack, select Sam’s Club locations, Staples and Wal-Mart are likely to sell the Xoom tablet at a lower price than… -

29 Oct 2011 | 8:52 amGoogle recently released the latest version of the open source software ‘Android 4.0′ which they have titled ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. That was done in the hope one or two handsets may really get loved and thus… -

Android Model Snags and Fragmentation Rubbish
25 Jan 2012 | 4:37 amYou will most likely have heard or read stories about Google's Android model hit a snag. These writers claiming things like fragmentation of the OS and manufacturers not keeping Android up to date with the current version is damaging Android. Well for one I think what a load of tosh. Were these people born in the IT generation? Did they not see or live in what happens with this type of model. Let me explain. Remember back when the mass production PC boom first started. You had the likes of Microsoft with Windows and Apple Mac. Both still holding their own today, but Windows still has the…

Handcraft Your Internet Radio With 8tracks
28 Jan 2012 | 12:05 amInternet radio usage has been on the rise with apps like Pandora and TuneIn Radio. The reason these apps have become so popular is because people like listening to music that relates to a specific song or genre. The major downfall with most of the applications out there is that the playlists are generated by an algorithm, rather than actual human beings. This method unfortunately lacks personalization and doesn’t quite feel as intimate as music should be. Wouldn’t it be much more attractive to have your playlists created by real music listeners? This is where 8tr… Continue… -
Samsung could unveil 2GHz tablet at MWC 2012
27 Jan 2012 | 11:45 pmCould this be what we have been waiting for? We had heard that Samsung may release the 2GHz Exynos 5250 processor sometime during Q2 of this year, but could it also be flaunted at this Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month? It makes perfect sense that it would, because it still follows the chip’s estimated public release date. A 2GHz chip could change everything, especially when it is said to nearly double the performance of the current ones out there. Even more, the graphical rendering could improve by up to 4X!. NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor is a powerhouse, but…

How to Listen to Radio on Android
24 Jan 2012 | 11:11 amThis is a pretty simple action to do since most people already know how to do this since they have a big button called RADIO and it says what to do in order to listen to it. Still, for all those of “lower technical prowess”, do enjoy this tutorial. The traditional method of listening to radio on your phone is to plug in the headphones and just click on the big button that says RADIO and choose the frequency you so desire. Galaxy S III makes an appearance on Samsung’s Support page
27 Jan 2012 | 10:54 pmWith MWC approaching, Samsung Galaxy S III rumors have been all over the news but none of them offered anything concrete about when it will release. Some Samsung executive revealed during an earning call that his company is currently reviewing details about the launch of the GSIII without specifying when it will happen. If history repeats itself, the Galaxy S III will carry model number GT-I9300 as the previous two models had the GT-I91xx (Galaxy S II) and GT-I90xx (Galaxy S) numbers. So it looks like the Korean manufacturer may jump right into the I9300 model number which made an appearance… -

Easily open any app or shortcut with just a swipe
9 Jan 2012 | 2:55 amAny Android user loves quick and easy access to their most used apps, contacts and other shortcuts. The problem is that most users also like their homescreens to be filled with widgets and often there is little room for other shortcuts. Sure, you can have a handful of homescreens for more screen space but constant swiping back and forth can also take time and effort. Also, if you’re in another app and you want to access that shortcut quickly, you have to first hit the home button and then swipe to find the correct homescreen. SwipePad comes to the rescue! This free app allows you to… -

6 Jan 2012 | 5:02 pmA few years ago, I sold my iPod touch and bought my first Android phone. I was so glad that I switched, there was one thing that I missed though, the games! There were thousands of great games available for iOS but only a few for Android. Oh boy things have changed since then! The Android Market is overflowing with a huge amount of great games, so much so that it is difficult to choose which one’s to download. What’s left after you sell your future?
5 Jan 2012 | 11:50 amNews from struggling book store chain Barnes & Noble today indicates they may split off their Nook ebook reader. CEO William Lynch, via Reuters, says: "We see substantial value in what we've built with our Nook business in only two years, and we believe it's the right time to investigate our options to unlock that value." This seems totally nuts for at least two reasons. First, the Nook is sucking money from B&N's more profitable ventures. If they spin it off, where does the capital come from? With Apple and Amazon as the main competition, doesn't the Nook need the largest possible… -
Expand your mind, Harvard MBA style
28 Dec 2011 | 5:32 pmHarvard Business School's journal, the Harvard Business Review, has turned its web site into quite a useful and thought-provoking blogging center. They put up a list of their most popular posts of 2011 and they're almost all worth reading. The best challenge widely held assumptions in business or career development. I particularly liked Bill Taylor's "Great People Are Overrated" and Dan Pallotta's "I Don't Understand What Anyone Is Saying Anymore." -
The platinum age of tech blogging
28 Dec 2011 | 5:14 pmSarah Lacy, late of Techcrunch, fires back at web analyst Jeremiah Owyang's contention that the "Golden Age" of tech blogging has come to an end: In many ways, professional blogging is just getting started. It's a time when new entrants are jumping into the field with bold, fresh ideas, standing on the shoulders of the blogging giants that came before, taking a second stab at reinventing the new media landscape. Look at what Bleacher Report has built in the long-neglected sports world, and what SB Nation is doing. Look at how the Verge (owned by SB Nation) is reinventing one of the oldest… -
Apple still failing on Internet reliability
28 Dec 2011 | 5:07 pmDrew Schuster on another unreliable Apple Internet service, iMessage: OK, so sending a text and claiming it failed isn’t that bad. What would be really bad is if a “Delivered” text was never actually received. That happens too. All the time. I sent my dad an iMessage yesterday that he never received, even though my phone claimed that it had been delivered. He handed me his phone later that day to show that he never got it. I tried turning off wi-fi, data, killing the messages application, and restarting the phone, and was still unable to receive that text. That is unacceptable given the… -
Weighing Apple’s patent war gains and losses
28 Dec 2011 | 9:00 amExcellent overview of the benefits Apple has won in its smart phone patent war so far. While the experts cited were divided on how far Apple should take the fight, I'm in agreement with Chris Marlett, who co-founded an investment bank specializing in patents: "Apple has the patents, the money and the expertise to go to war," Marlett said. "I just don't see why Apple would seek détente, since they're the clear leader. Until they're hit with an injunction by Google or Samsung, they don't need to get serious about licensing." -San Francisco Chronicle, December 28, 2011 Posted from WordPress for…

iPhone vs Android: Which Won In 2011?
30 Dec 2011 | 4:23 pmThis is a guest post by Sam Peters. The biggest conflict we have seen all year has been in the smartphone industry. iPhone and Android have been battling each other all year long, which has actually put several phone makers in court. So which really is the best? Should you go with Android or iPhone? Android Becomes Best Selling OS: Android – 1, iPhone – 0 There is no denying that Android is the most common operating system available on smartphones. 2011 was the year that Android came to prominence and really started showing their dominance in the overall marketplace. Android’s Majel Is Not An Apple Siri Rival
15 Dec 2011 | 8:55 pmWhat Siri Offers Siri, the virtual assistant for the Apple iPhone 4S, when it appeared two months ago seemed possibly to be an Android killer. It had both natural language technology together with artificial intelligence. Given Apple’s emphasis on usability and user convenience, it promised to be impressive and so it was to many. Google perhaps as one might expect was less enthusiastic. Andy Rubin, Google – Strategy or Subterfuge Andy Rubin, Senior VP Mobile, Google said that the Siri was wrong-headed since a phone should merely act as an intermediary between humans and… -
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Looks A Winner
3 Dec 2011 | 3:10 pmMobile or portable devices are clearly the future of the computing world. Although iPhones and iPads have up till now been the market’s darlings, albeit at premium prices, Android is now coming up strongly. An example of this is a tablet put out by Samsung that may well take the lead. According to TechRadar, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is without doubt one of the best tablets yet to hit the shelves. The outstanding Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb tablet is lighter and a hair thinner than the Apple iPad 2, and has a smaller footprint than either the Motorola Xoom or the Acer… -
Google’s Android May Pay Billions To Apple
30 Nov 2011 | 12:07 amAs Forbes.com did on the question whether Siri is an android killer, it is now attempting to create a controversy on whether Google’s Android will be paying billions to Apple. Nigam Arora, a contributor to Forbes.com suggested that Apple will make billions On Google’s Android. This is because Apple has a mountain of patents related to using movements and gestures on smart phone screens, which are very effective and may well set the standard for what users will accept. For example there is an Apple patent for a ‘slide to unlock’ feature. All Android devices use this…

With smartphones becoming a more integral part of our lives, it's only natural that users would be concerned that a popular voice control app that comes preinstalled on many Samsung devices would be uploading location, phone ID and… -

What Would Be Your Android Dream Phone?
27 Jan 2012 | 9:15 am(This is a preview - click here to read the entire entry.) (picture from Pocket Hacks) We've always found it cool that you can go on Dells website and basically custom build your dream PC. You can get pretty specific too, with choices on design, hardware, software, you name it. But then we thought, "how cool it would be if you could do that with an Android phone or tablet“? And then we thought about what specs we would want it to have if it was possible, and wondered what type of dream phone our members would create if they had the chance to. -

ASUS Transformer Prime Parody Ad: Tablets Are Awkward
27 Jan 2012 | 7:51 am(This is a preview - click here to read the entire entry.) You know what's awkward? A tablet. Think about it: it's a fairly massive piece of technology that is supposed to be portable. Too big to fit in a pocket, not big enough to warrant a backpack, you can whip one out quite easily, but they don't exactly look particluarly "cool."
